About the Author

A K Bhattacharya :- Dr A K Bhattacharya, M. Tech. (IIT, Kharagpur), Ph. D. (McGill University, Canada), Recipient of Shankar Memorial Award and Fellow of Indian Society of Agricultural Engineers and National Academy of Agricultural Sciences, is an eminent scientist, academician and researcher of international repute. He joined Indian Agricultural Research Institute (IARI) in 1969 and retired from his services in 2006 as Principal Scientist. Further, he served as an Emeritus Scientist in the same institute for two years. He has also been a faculty for post-graduate courses throughout his tenure at Indian Agricultural Research Institute (IARI), besides guiding a large number of M.Sc. and Ph.D. students. He has over 60 research publications in national and international journals to his credit and has authored/co-authored books and bulletins on hydrology and water recourses. He has also been a member of various Expert Committees of ICAR, IARI, Bureau of Indian Standards and the Ministry of Environment and Forests.

A M Michael :- Dr A M Michael, M.Tech., Ph.D. (IIT, Kharagpur), fellow of Institute of Engineering (India), Indian National Academy of Engineering and Indian Society of Agricultural Engineers, is an internationally acclaimed figure in the field of Water Resource Development and Management. He has worked as senior faculty in Rajasthan Agricultural University, Punjab Agricultural University and Indian Agricultural Research Institute (IARI). He also served as a Resource Scientist at University of Nairobi, UN University and Lund University and has been a visiting Professor at AIT, Bangkok. He has held important positions in various research centres, including prestigious post of Director, IARI, New Delhi and Vice Chancellor, Kerala Agricultural University. For his outstanding contributions in the area of water resources development and management, he was conferred upon with a number of national awards and recognitions, including the Kidwai memorial Prize of ICAR, Dr Rajendra Prasad Puraskar of ICAR, the Engineers of the Year Award 1995, Institution of Engineers (India). Dr Michael has also served as a Consultant to several international organizations such as the World Bank, Commonwealth Secretariat, FAO, ICRISAT, UNDP and WAPCOS.
